So
you're going on a road trip and you want to have the best experience
possible? Consider downloading these five great apps that are free and
available for both iOS and Android devices. Unlike many other apps which require internet usage, these apps can all be fully utilized offline. This is wonderful when you're on the road and don't have access to WiFi or don't want to pay for additional roaming charges.
Game apps such as Candy Crush Saga, Angry Birds, and Fruit Ninja can be accessed offline and are great for entertaining children or any other passengers on the road who want to enjoy passing the time while strengthening their cognitive skills. These type of games can be played offline and have an unlimited number of levels, so players can never run out of things to do. They are also free to play and although most have in app purchase options, these aren't necessary.
2. Navmii
This easy to use app is primarily for GPS purposes and has several useful online features as well. They also offer map packs for around $5 and the ads that come with the app can be removed for $2.
This app can help travelers find attractions and learn more about the places they're visiting with maps, photos, and reviews of over 300 major cities. It does require users to download the specific guides wanted ahead of time, so a little planning is needed to fully utilize the app.
4. TripIt
For those who've created an itinerary for their journey and want to be able to access it anywhere offline to stay organized, then this trip planner app is nice to have on mobile devices.
5. Wi-Fi Finder
Wi-Fi Finder is perfect for the times on the road where internet access is needed. It works both online and offline and features over 550,000 free and paid locations in over 144 countries worldwide. Users can search for public WiFi hotspots by location or provider type.
Honorable Mention: GasBuddy
Just like the other apps on this list, the GasBuddy app is free and has both an iOS version and an Android version. This wasn't included on the list because it does use internet (so data or WiFi is needed) but it's helpful for finding cheap gas prices all across America. So when you're on your way to
Chatham Gables Inn in Massachusetts or to the
By the Side of the Road Inn & Cottages in Virginia, you'll always have something entertained while on the road! Enjoy your trip!
